Glock 17 – Global Pistol

The Glock 17 in caliber 9×19 is the most widely used law enforcement pistol worldwide. Because of its unsurpassed reliability, above-average magazine capacity of 17 cartridges in the standard magazine and its low weight, it is trusted by law enforcement officers in their daily duties throughout the world. It is safe, easy and quick to use through the revolutionary “Safe Action” trigger system.
History
The Glock 17 was the first pistol designed and manufactured by the Austrian company Glock. It is a locked breech, short recoil 9 mm Para semi-automatic pistol with a standard magazine capacity of 17 rounds of ammunition. It uses a modified Petter/Browning barrel locking system. The Glock 17 appeared in the early 1980s for the Austrian Army weapons trials. It entered service under the designation P80. In 1988, it entered service in the Swedish Army under the designation Pistol 88. It is also used by the Norwegian Army and police. The designation 17 is derived from the gun’s being Gaston Glock’s 17th patent, rather than its magazine capacity. The Glock 17, like all Glock pistols, has a well known reputation for being extremely rugged and reliable.

The Glock stirred up quite a scare when it was revealed to have a polymer frame. Some people thought that, based on early reports, the whole gun was plastic and/or ceramic, and therefore undetectable by metal detectors. In fact, the slide, barrel and many other internal parts, comprising about 80 percent of the gun’s mass, are made out of metal. The slide and barrel are QPQ Tenifer treated, a process that makes their steel more durable to wear and tear as well as to corrosion.

The Glock 17 has become very popular because of its simple controls, high durability, and moderate price. It is also reported to be highly reliable in extreme environments like desert, jungle, and arctic regions. The pistol enjoys widespread use in law enforcement, but is also a very popular military, sports, and self-defense pistol. More than 50 countries use it for law enforcement or military service.

Description and Specifications
The Glock 17 and all others that Glock has since produced use the “Safe Action” fire control system, a single-action mechanism utilizing a striker instead of a hammer and firing pin. Like most other striker-fired pistols, the Glock pistol requires the trigger to pull the striker back the rest of the way, and to release it. In its ready-to-fire state, the pistol could be considered to be “half-cocked”. This arrangement translates to consistent trigger pulls which some claim makes training easier. Notably absent is any manual user safety, although a trigger safety and additional internal measures prevent accidental discharge. Its frame is made out of an advanced polymer. Glock barrels use polygonal rifling for increased accuracy which works best with jacketed ammunition, otherwise lead build-up in the barrel is likely to cause malfunctioning.

The Glock 17 (and only model 17) could be modified with “amphibious kit” that allows underwater firing (in very shallow depths, thought). Basically, the underwater shooting itself has very little effect in real combat, since the effective range is extremely short. The real purpose of that feature is to show the strength of the gun and to allow safe shooting in severe weather conditions, with possible water in the barrel (in many guns this may result in blown barrel).

- Caliber: 9 mm
- Cartridge: 9×19 mm
- Weight: 22.04 oz / 625 g empty
- Produced: 1980 – present
The automatic version of the Glock 17, called Glock 18, available only in 9mm Luger and only for Military/Law enforcement sales. Glock 18 can fire in semi-automatic or fully automatic modes. The pistol may be equipped with 31-rounds extended magazines and after-market folding stocks. For security reasons, some parts of the Glock 18 are not interchangeable with Glock 17 pistols. The theoretical rate of fire in full-auto mode is 1200 rounds per minute.

I have owned my model 17 for about a year and have fired thousands of rounds through it. It is a pleasure to fire, and has never malfunctioned even when going through four hundred rounds plus in one outing. I put tru glow night sights on it even though it was extremly accurate out of the box the tru glow sights are three dot and are bright green very bright in the dark. The 33 round mags are a blast, better stock up on the ammo you really go through it. The model 17 is affordable and I do not think there is a better nine.
the Glock is a great firearm, my favorit is te Taurus 24/7 PRO TATICAL POLYMER PISTOL, It?s really more efficient in my opinion

I own the G26 (sub compact 9mm) and the G30 (sub compact 45 auto) and they very accurate out of the box. I also own a Ruger SR9 compact that is thin in comparison to the G26, but has a longer trigger pull, making it a little less comfortable to shot. If looking for a nice compact 9mm and money is not the issue, I would definitely go with the G26. For guys that have big hands, I recommend installing the pinky extension that attaches to the bottom of the clip.
I have two glock pistol model G22(.40 cal) ang G34USA(9mm) and both were converted to fire either semi-automatic and automatic fire. amazingly the two were exellent for protection details here in the Philippines. My Glock M34USA were equipt with PDW K.P.O.S. system and an aimpoint red dot as my sight.
Thanks for this Hi-Tech 3rd Generation firearms and the PDW K.P.O.S
system.
I recently got a Glock 17 and couldn’t be happier. I’ve fired about 1000 rounds through it so far and no malfuntion whatsoever (I do clean it regularly as you should do with any gun). To me, it’s the best bang (no pun intended) for your buck. Also, my Glock is deadly accurate. At the local gun range there’s empty propane tanks at 150 yards and I can hit ‘em about 1 out of 2 shots. Love my Glock.
im a jail officer and a team leader of the special tactics and response(STAR-BJMP)apparently i own a glock 22 caliber 40 amazingly the pistol is very effective i fired a thousand rounds and no malfunctions.
Has anyone heard about the stories about glocks exploding ? Input please
I use my Glock Model 22 at MPSAI CLUB SHOOT last November 28, 2010 Level 1 competition. I won the Standard Division as Champion. I only used teflon ammunition with 4.2 load. No malfunction! It’s not me but my GLOCK is the champion.
About Glocks exploding like any gun and anything man made they can malfunction especially if you don’t follow the directions. It clearly states in a glock pistol should only be fired with factory loaded ammo the explosions that you have heard of probably occurred when a reload failed to release the bullet correctly due to an out of round casing which causes extremely high pressure in the chamber enough to literally blow the frame out usually neat the trigger guard
perfect
nice
I use my Glock 17 during my work as a militair police-officer, it is for us the best gun ever, never complaints.

Hi…I have a 1st generation Glock 17. Can I buy a 3rd of 4th generation frame only for Glock 17 to replace my 1st generation Glock 17 frame? If you have any idea please advise me.
OK, first the 17 is a 9mm, not the best for stopping power, however, the 22 and the 35 are 40 S&W (10mm), with mag cap of 15, not too bad, two less rounds however with the ballistics of the 40 it is undeniably a much better round. I have a new Gen 4 Mod. 22, it is a marvel. I have a few other handguns in 45acp, other 40 sw, a 9mm. For target and paper punching the 45 1911′s are great, the Glocks, now they are with me 22hrs x 7 days for CCW. Just no reason not to have all three sizes of the 40SW Cal. Glock, nope no reason at all.
where i can buy a glock 17?
You should be able to find a Glock via the internet where a store is, Google Davidson’s Gun Genie and complete the info requersted. It is a snap. Anyway, personal note, why not settle for ane model 22, New Generation 4 in Smith and Wesson 40 cal, you get 15 rounds of .40′s much better [In my humble opeinnion], just an idea.
sounds to me like pakistan is trying to load up. dont they know we already got bin laden? But I’m looking to get either a glock 17 or a sdx. what do yall think?
Hi

Wow, there are some really retarded folks posting comments here. Comical in one way but scary if some of these brain dead fools are ever armed!
From what I can tell, most of you won’t be able to purchase ANY firearms if you can’t spell your name, state you live in, or even America! You might get lucky if you practice a little. Start small with small words like; gun, dog, cat, etc. and work your way up to big words like; Glock, money, bullets, and maybe even permit. For the seventh graders and higher, try words like; ammunition, firearm, reloading, and ballistics! Most of what I see here is just about as sorry as it gets! Go to skool, lern to reed, and don’t worry about buying any guns until you lern too tye yer shooze!
